Deaths in Laois - December 5, 2017

Betty Tierney - Mountmellick

The death took place on Monday, December 4 of Betty Tierney (née McLoughlin) of Patrick street, Mountmellick. 

Retired Publican Patrick Street, Mountmellick. Beloved mother of the late Mark. Deeply regretted by her daughters Pauline and June and her son John, grandchildren Laura, Lorraine, Zac, Sophie, Lucy and Daniel, great-grandchildren Abbie, Pierre-Paul, Lily and Audrey, relatives and many friends.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later 

Julia Baker - Abbeyleix

The death took place on Monday, December 4 of Julia Baker (née Whelan) of Rathmoyle, Abbeyleix. 

Peacefully in the loving care of Drominin Nursing Home, Stradbally. Predeceased by her husband Roy, deeply regretted by her sons Ernest and Justin, daughter-in-law Katja, grandchildren Ernest Jnr. and Nicole, brothers Dinny and Pat, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Drominin from 6pm on Tuesday, with Rosary at 8pm. Removal on Wednesday at 1.30pm to The Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix for 2pm Requiem Mass. Burial afterwards in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

William Downey - Portlaoise 

The death took place on Monday, December 4 of William ( Willow) Downey of New Rd., Portlaoise. 

Reposing at Keegan's Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, with rosary at 8pm. Removal on Wednesday morning to SS Peter and Paul's Church, to arrive for 10am requiem Mass. Interment in SS Peter and Paul's Cemetery afterwards. Deeply regretted by his loving relatives and many friends.

Ann Burbage - Portarlington

The death took place on Sunday, December 3 of Ann Burbage (née Betson) of Bishopswood Rd, Portarlington, and late of Spa Street Portarlington and Main Street, Daingean.

Peacefully at the Regional Hospital Tullamore. Loving wife of the late Tom. Deeply regretted by her loving son Andrew and his partner Breda,brother Austin, sisters Ita,Bertie and Margaret, sisters-in-law Camillus and Carmel, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at Maher's Chapel of Rest Portarlington on Monday from 4:30pm with Removal at 6:50pm arriving St Michael's church Portarlington at 7:30pm. Requiem Mass on Tuesday at 12 noon. Funeral afterwards to St Michael's cemetery Portarlington.

Peter Bennett - Mountrath

The death took place on Saturday, December 2 of Peter Bennett of Main Street, Mountrath.

Publican and formerly of John Murphy & Sons Construction. The Fountain House, Mountrath. Peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Vera, dearly loved Dad to son Peter, daughters Mag, Lisa, Karol, Joanne and Julie, cherished grandad to Ava, Sarah, Joe, Jack, Peter, Xavier and Aurora, brother to Kathleen and Martin, predeceased by his brothers James, Paddy and Billy. Deeply regretted by his loving family, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, all extended family, and his many friends.

Reposing at Burke's Funeral Home on Monday from 2pm with removal at 6.30pm to St. Fintan's Church, Mountrath arriving at 7pm. Funeral Mass on Tuesday morning at 11am, followed by Burial in St. Fintan's Cemetery Mountrath. 

James Delaney - Crettyard

The death took place on Friday, December 1 of James Delaney of Newtown Bog, Crettyard.

Sadly missed by his Mother Patricia, Father Michael, sisters Bernadette, Karen, Ann, and Deirdre, girlfriend Dorothy, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Reposing at his residence from 1pm on Sunday. Vigil Prayers and Rosary on Sunday evening at 8pm. Funeral Prayers on Monday morning at 11am followed by removal to Saint Abban's Church, Doonane for 12 noon Mass with burial in the adjoining cemetery. 

Stasia McLaughlin - Dublin and Borris-in-Ossory

The death took place on Saturday, December 2 of Stasia McLaughlin  (née Whelan) of Rathgar, Dublin and Borris-in-Ossory.

Peacefully in Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross, Stasia, beloved wife of the late Louis, and loving mother to Oonagh,; she will be sadly missed by her loving daughter, grandson Isaac, Oonagh’s Partner David, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and a large group of good friends.

Reposing on Monday from 4pm-6pm at the Larry Massey Funeral Home, 100 Terenure Road North. Removal on Tuesday morning to St Joseph’s Church, Terenure, arriving at 9.45am for 10am Mass. Funeral immediately afterwards to Bohernabreena Cemetery.
