Laois neighbours get ball rolling on historic St Patrick's Day

Abbeyleix and Durrow are the first Laois communities out of the traps in planning for St Patrick's Day with both returning with their first parades since Covid-19 struck.

The Abbeyleix organisers are calling on all businesses, community groups and organisations to get involved with the events on Friday, March 17.

"After three years of a gap, the annual St Patrick's Day Parade will be making its' relatively short but memorably colourful way down Main St once again.

"The committee is looking for people to join the organising committee, to take on one or two (or three!) tasks in the weeks prior to, and on the day itself, to ensure the smooth running of this important day on our town's annual calendar of events," they say.

Meanwhile, the organisers in neighbouring Durrow have also hit the start button on their plans. They aim to run a Parade  at 1pm.

"This is our first parade since Covid and we want to make it the best one yet but we need all your help to make this the best St Patrick’s Day parade Durrow has ever seen.

"We need volunteers, floats, fun, music, dance, Gaelic games and we need the full community to assist," say the organisers.

To get involved please text or phone Ian on (087) 4422654 or Pat on (087) 2814661 for further info and to take part or contact us on their social media pages.
