The new Lidl in Graiguecullen will finally open its doors next week

Lidl has confirmed it will open its brand new store in Graiguecullen next Thursday, June 18.

A massive €10 million has been invested in the development of the new store on the Castlecomer Road in Graiguecullen.

This new store on the Laois border will create 25 permanent jobs and its opening forms part of Lidl Ireland’s expansion plans for 193 stores across the country.

The planning application for the new Graiguecullen store on the site of the former National Learning Network Centre and Rehabcare building was approved last June, despite objections from community groups in the area, including the Graiguecullen/Killeshin Parish and St Fiacc’s House.

The store is now due to open its doors next Thursday, June 18.

The Graiguecullen store features a spacious 1,499 sqm sales floor area, self-service checkouts, long tills, two Deposit Return Scheme machines, an off licence, customer restrooms with baby changing facilities, and an in-store bakery.

It will be the first top energy-rated supermarket of its kind in Ireland, achieving the highest A0 Building Energy Rating (BER). In keeping with its ambitions to be a sustainable store, there will be a number of bike spaces and electric vehicle charging points for customers.

Carlow LGFA captain Róisín Bailey and Laois LGFA captain Andrea Moran will have the honour of cutting the ribbon on the brand new store at 8am next Thursday.

Shoppers will be able to avail of opening day offers and the first ten customers through the doors will receive complementary Lidl gift vouchers to redeem in-store.

Ahead of the store opening, Niall Murray, Regional Managing Director for Lidl Ireland said: “We are incredibly proud to finally unveil our new Graiguecullen store and bring Lidl’s ‘More to Value’ proposition to the heart of the local community.

“Opening on June 18th, this store represents a substantial investment in Carlow and Laois, and as our highest energy-rated store in the country, we’re sure that it will serve the community for years to come and contribute positively to the local area.”

Commenting on her ribbon-cutting role, Carlow Ladies Gaelic Football Captain Róisín Bailey added: "I am thrilled to be officially opening the new Lidl store in Graiguecullen on June 18th. As a Carlow player, it’s fantastic to see this kind of investment in the local area. Lidl has been a massive supporter of the LGFA for more than a decade and I’m really looking forward to meeting the locals and welcoming everyone into the new store!"
