Laois homeless figures drop by 20%

March figures show 28 people accessing emergency accommodation in county

28  now homeless in Laois

28 individuals were recorded as homeless in Laois last month.

The number of people recorded as homeless in Laois last month fell by 20%, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing. 


There were 28 individuals availing of emergency accommodation from the local authority during the week of March 25 to 31. 


This is down from 35 people recorded as homeless in the county the month previous. 


Across the midlands there were 32 families in local authority emergency accommodation last month. This included 38 adults and 49 children. 


There were 148 adults availing of emergency accommodation across the midlands during the week recorded in March. The majority were aged between 25 to 44 (72). There were 51 people aged between 45 and 64 and there were two people aged over 65 homeless in the region. 


Nationally the number of homeless people in emergency accommodation has climbed to a new high, now standing at 13,866 including over 4,000 children.
