Emergency services attending crash in Laois

Emergency services are attending a crash on an icy stretch of road near Portlaoise. 

It's understood a woman and child were in a car that flipped and landed on its roof the road at Crookedy near Portlaoise. 

Emergency services are at the scene where paramedics are assessing the woman and child who are not believed to be badly injured. 

A snow and ice warning has been issued for Laois by Met Éireann as temperatures plummeted in the county overnight. 

The status yellow warning for snow and ice will come into effect from 9pm on Wednesday and will remain in place until 12pm on Thursday. It is in addition to the low temperature warnings that were earlier issued. 

Met Eireann warned that snowfall accumulations are expected with hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility, travel disruption and animal welfare issues.

A further accident has been reported on the M7 eastbound between Junction 22 Roscrea, and Junction 21 Borris-in-Ossory, with one lane affected.
