Many counties in alert
Met Éireann is warning of potential localised flooding as a status yellow thunderstorm warning is issued for Laois.
The Thunderstorm and Rain warning for Leinster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford is valid from 12 noon today.
“Localised slow-moving showers with heavy downpours, potential thunderstorms and a chance of hail,” are all possible, Met Éireann warned.
They said the possible impacts include difficult driving conditions and possible localised flooding.
In its national weather out Met Éireann says it will be very warm throughout the week with sunny spells along with heavy showers or thunderstorms in some parts. The UV Index and Pollen Count will be High. MORE DETAILS BELOW TWEET.
The warning is in place from 12 noon until 10pm tonight.
Met Éireann National forecast was issued at 8.54am on June 12.
Monday: Warm and humid today with a good deal of cloud and just a few sunny spells. Scattered showers will develop through the day, in the east at first before spreading westwards across the country. Some will be heavy with the chance of isolated thunderstorms and a risk of spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees in a light north or northwest breeze. There will be coastal fog at times too.
Showers will continue early at night, with the continued chance of isolated thunderstorms and spot flooding. Showers will become more isolated towards morning with clear spells developing. Mist and fog patches will set in again. A warm night with temperatures not falling below 14 to 16 degrees in light northerly or variable winds.
Tuesday: Very warm or hot on Tuesday with sunny spells and a light southeasterly breeze. Scattered heavy showers or thunderstorms will break out during the day, most likely in the west or midlands with a further risk of spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 23 to 27 degrees, although less warm along coasts due to sea breezes. Some coastal mist or fog may linger.
A muggy night with showers early on in the west dying out. Dry and clear in many areas with some mist and fog forming. Temperatures not falling below 13 to 15 degrees with a light easterly breeze.
WEDNESDAY: Very warm or hot with temperatures reaching 23 to 27 degrees for most, less warm along coasts. Good spells of hazy sunshine although scattered heavy downpours or thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon and evening, most likely in the west and midlands. Light southeast breezes.
Another mild night with temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees and very light breezes. Lingering showers will die out with a dry night for many. Turning misty with some fog possible.
THURSDAY: Very warm with sunny spells, although hit-or-miss heavy showers or thunderstorms are likely to develop during the day. Highs largely between 22 to 26 degrees with little to no wind aside from sea breezes.
FRIDAY: Some showers are expected again on Friday mixed with hazy sunny spells. Highs of 22 to 25 degrees, a little lower along coasts.
FURTHER OUTLOOK: Humid and warm weather with showers likely to continue over the weekend, although possibly turning cloudier.
