World Champion boxer poses with Portlaoise Gardai

Portlaoise Gardai had a run-in with an Irish World Champion fighter at the weekend. 

Members of Portlaoise Community Policing Unit posted an image with boxer Katie Taylor.  

The world champion boxer from Bray, who is an inspiration to young fighters throughout Ireland and across the world, was in Laois visiting Portlaoise Boxing Club. 

Portlaoise Boxing Club’s Pat Ryan is a former coach of Taylor and he spent 13 years assisting the High Performance Unit in the IABA Boxing Council. He coached Taylor alongside her dad Pete for over six years. Ryan also coached TJ Doheny, who went on to win a world championship in the sport. Ryan is also a former President of Irish Amateur Boxing Association.
