The Pet Sitters Ireland Nose of Tralee pet competition has officially opened for voting, running from now until July 10.

A lovely little dog from Emo, Co Laois is in the running and her owners couldn't be more excited.

They said,

"Amber is a Soft-Coated Irish Wheaten Terrier who was born in Canada!

"She joined our family at 7-months-old while we were living there, and returned with us to Ireland in August 2019. Amber was a terrified little girl when we first met her, but constant love and encouragement from us and from her canine 'brother' Fonzie have seen her blossom.

"Fonzie is her 'support dog' - she adores him and during the early months with us she would not let him out of her sight!

"Amber is full of mischief, very clever and yet loves to snuggle and cuddle. She can be quite wary of strangers at times, probably due to whatever happened in her earlier life, but when she loves she does so with all her heart.

"Her favourite place in the whole world is Emo House in Laois, where she will walk around the trails until either her legs get tired or her tummy starts grumbling for food!

"Did I mention that she loves food??? Oh yes, Miss Amber adores her food! When she first joined our family, I could never imagine a time when I could enter her in any competition. Yet, here she is - hoping to win the hearts of people everywhere.

"I really hope she gets that chance!"

With an impressive 1650 entries from all 32 counties in Ireland, the competition has seen a diverse array of pets, including pigs, a bearded dragon, an  axolotl, a frog, and numerous birds, in addition to the usual cats and dogs.

In the first 12 hours of voting, the excitement was clear, with 1000 votes already cast for Ireland's favourite pets.

Kate McQuillan, Owner of Pet Sitters Ireland, expressed her enthusiasm:

"We are thrilled by the incredible variety of pets entered this year and the overwhelming response from the public. It's fantastic to see people from all over Ireland coming together to support and celebrate their favourite pets.

"The Nose of Tralee continues to be a highlight, showcasing the unique bond between pets and their owners."

Pet lovers can cast their votes for the next Nose of Tralee by visiting www.petsittersireland.com/nose-2024.

The competition will end on August 20 with the announcement of the grand winner, following the final count of public votes.
