Councillor revealed a child was almost killed by traffic in Laois

Doirin Alainn, Ballylinan

A child was almost killed by traffic at an estate in Ballylinan, a councillor has revealed.

Independent Cllr Aisling Moran raised the issue at a recent meeting of Portarlington Graigueculen Municipal District.

She tabled a motion asking: “That Laois County Council install a safety barrier at the pedestrian entrance to Doirin Alainn, Ballylinan, along with double yellow lines on the road adjacent to it.”

Cllr Moran said measures were needed to prevent children running straight out onto the road.

“The entrance is going directly onto the road and kids are running out,” said Cllr Moran.

She said “a child lately went out and was nearly killed stone dead.”

In response to the motion, Senior Executive Engineer, Philip McVeigh said, “Laois County Council has inspected this location and will arrange to have this safety barrier and adjacent roadmarkings installed.”
