Laois Gardaí say VW Golf driver who tested positive for cocaine when stopped for doing 141kph in a 50 zone caught again days later

Gardaí said a VW Golf driver who tested positive for cocaine after being stopped for doing 141kph in a 50kph zone has again failed a drugs test after being caught doing 127kph in a 50km zone. 

“On New Year’s Eve, the driver of this VW Golf was arrested and rang in the new year in Garda custody. We posted about it."

“Yesterday, true to the quote made famous in The Terminator, he returned. Same VW Golf however this time detected: 127 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Positive for Cocaine (again). Positive for Cannabis (again). Arrested (again)” Gardaí wrote in a social media post. 

Gardaí said the VW Golf was seized. “These cases highlighted are the drivers that we are all sharing the roads with,” they said. 

“Not so fun Fact: Laois RPU(Roads Policing Unit) have still to go a single day in 2026 without arresting a driver under the influence of cocaine,” Gardai added. 

Gardaí said “the movie quote might be iconic, but the consequences are very very real. Fortunately the only thing terminated was the journey....”
