Back road to Laois hospital 'very dangerous' for cyclists

The back road to a Laois hospital is "very dangerous" for cyclists, according to a local councillor.

Cllr John John Fennelly is calling on Laois County Council to repair the surface of the Ballinakill road in Abbeyleix, "from the back entrance to the hospital to the junction for Ballinakill".

The road leads to Abbeyleix Community Nursing Unit.

He tabled a motion to the January meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District, describing the problem.

"There is a ridge on the centre of the road. If there is anybody on a bike it is very dangerous," he said.

He got the best news on his motion, that the job was already done, by roads office for the district.

"You were out last Friday, thank you for your swift response," Cllr Fennelly acknowledged.
