Trees and vegetation in a Laois housing estate beside the busy N80 road are "completely overgrown".
Residents in the big Fairgreen estate in Portlaoise are complaining about tree roots breaking paths, and bushes forcing people out onto the road.
Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley tabled a motion on their behalf to the January meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
"I was contacted by residents. Trees have overgrown and are blocking lights on Carmody Way. Drainage gullies have not been cleaned out so water is ponding. Some of the roots are coming up on footpaths causing problems.
"At DeVesci Court and Cosby Avenue, there is a section of path where the bush has gone completely out on the path. You have to walk around it, the height of it is unreal. Maybe the vegetation should be replaced," Cllr Dwane Stanley suggests.
In reply, the area engineer Wes Wilkinson said he will meet the councillor onsite and examine the trees in Carmody Way, De Vesci Court and Cosby Avenue in Fairgreen estate, "with a view to addressing any issues that pose a significant risk".
Meanwhile roads staff will arrange to clear out the road gullies.
