'Very poor' road surface outside historic Laois church
Road conditions at the entrance to an historic Church of Ireland chapel in Laois are "very poor", while part of a traffic barrier is said to have been stolen.
St Mark's Church of Ireland in Borris-in-Ossory is a quaint chapel with a round bell tower that dates back to 1860.
Laois County Council is to carry out road repairs at its entrance on a forked road junction on the end of the Main Street.
Fine Gael Cllr Conor Bergin made the request in a motion tabled to the March meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District, where he described the issue.
"I was asked to raise this. The road surface is very poor. There are bollards there but a chain was stolen.
"They take fantastic care of the church. Could we just get it patched at the entrance? They are working with Tidy Towns as well," Cllr Bergin said.
Cllr John King seconded the motion in support.
"Many can remember when the main road was at the left side of the church. Church of Ireland people use it," he said.
Laois County Council say its road crews will attend to the road in the coming weeks.
