The M7 Dublin Limerick motorway is closed in both directions between Junction 23 Moneygall and Junction 22 Roscrea after a serious multi-vehicle crash this afternoon.
A number of vehicles have been involved in a crash between the two exits northbound but emergency services are attending te scene and the road has been closed.
The incident happened in the right lane in severely wet conditions, and the AA are advising motorists to avoid the area.
The Air Corps helicopter has landed at the scene, while there are reports of multiple emergency vehicles.
There are very poor conditions on the M7 between J22 Roscrea and J28 Castletroy due to slush. Motorists should consider avoiding the rest of this stretch, according to the AA.
This is the second time in a week the motorway was forced to close. A man in aged in his 70s was killed near Birdhill on Tuesday January 16.
