Cllr Paddy Bracken was urging the Council to repair a ‘dangerous’ path

A Councillor warned that a footpath was dangerous and needed to be repaired.

Cllr Paddy Bracken asked in a motion "that this Council repair the damaged footpaths outside numbers 8 to 11 Cullenbeg, Mountmellick."

In a written response, the Council said “the Area Office does not have the budget for this work in 2026. The repair of these footpaths will be considered in 2027.”

Cllr Bracken was unhappy with the response and he said it would have to be addressed. He said someone could fall or trip at the footpath.

“It is only a couple of metres of ready mix,” said Cllr Bracken. “Will you relent?” he asked.

Senior Executive Engineer Rory O’Callaghan said the budget for footpaths had been spent but he would have a look at the path.

The issue was discussed during the October meeting of Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District.
