Volunteers take up spades for Laois Tidy Towns group

25 volunteers from Turas Nua lend a hand to Mountrath Tidy Towns
A group of volunteers donned gloves and took up spades, hoes, rakes and brushes to help out Mountrath Tidy Towns in their efforts to keep the community neat and tidy. Laois Volunteer Centre in collaboration with Mountrath Tidy Towns organised the environmental project with the help of 25 volunteers from Turas Nua.
Margaret Moore, Mountrath Tidy Towns said that “We are delighted with the help from the volunteers from Turas Nua. Having 25 people to tackle jobs that we just couldn’t get to is a massive boost. We are especially grateful to Laois Volunteer Centre (Caitriona Ryan and Emer Boyle) for organising the 25 volunteers from Turas Nua. They are a great bunch of staff. They were so enthusiastic and determined to get as much done in four hours as possible. We were amazed at the amount of weeding, sweeping and general tidying up they did for us.”
Oana Ghitiu, County Manager, Turas Nua said “Our team thoroughly enjoyed partnering with Laois Volunteer Centre and Margaret from Mountrath Tidy Towns for a very productive day of community action. The spirit of teamwork and cooperation on display made the experience both successful and enjoyable. We are proud to support initiatives like this and are grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community.
“This was a very successful volunteering event. It was a great example of different organisations coming together and focussing on getting a big job done in a relatively short space of time. As the old saying goes ‘many hands make light work’,” said Caitriona Ryan, Manager of Laois Volunteer Centre.
“It was a pleasure to work with all concerned. We are extremely grateful to Oana Ghitiu, County Manager for choosing to avail of our corporate volunteering programme. This was Turas Nua’s second year volunteering with us. Thank you to all involved – the staff of Turas Nua and Margaret Moore, Mountrath Tidy Towns.”
