A councillor told a meeting that he is concerned sheep might venture onto the motorway in Laois.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Paschal McEvoy asked in a motion “that this Council clear the cattle grid up from the Heath School.”

He said the land around there was a commonage where sheep wandered freely.

“The fear is that they go across and find themselves on the motorway,” Cllr McEvoy explained.

Senior Executive Engineer Philip McVeigh said “Laois County Council will arrange for these works to be carried out as soon as possible.”

The issue was discussed at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
