Blocked drains have consequence for Laois roads

A lot of drains and small rivers in Laois are ‘completely clogged up’ resulting in roads flooding frequently, according to a Laois councillor who wants action.

Cllr Aisling Moran, Fine Gael, made an appeal at a recent meeting with officials.

“An awful lot of small drains and rivers are completely clogged up,” she said.

Cllr Moran noted that a drain that had keen cleared in the Killeen area is ‘completely backed up’ again.

She said the blockages are resulting in a lot more roads flooding.

“It has to be down to the rivers that are all filled up,” she said.

The issue was raised at the recent Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District meeting.
