'She lit up the lives of her students' - Portlaoise school pays tribute following death of beloved teacher

Scoil Chríost Rí in Portlaoise has paid tribute to Eileen Loughnane, a teacher at the school who passed away suddenly this week.

In a moving tribute the school said Eileen lit up the lives of her students and fellow teachers with her vibrant positivity and her infectious smile.

"We are shocked and saddened at the untimely passing of our beloved Home Economics teacher Mrs. Eileen Loughnane. Eileen was an incredible teacher, leader, colleague and friend," the school said in a post online.

"Eileen always strived to get the best out of her students and went above and beyond for her “baby girls”. She was an exemplary role model for our students and will be deeply missed by her Scoil Chriost Ri family.

"As a mark of respect and to recognise her dedication and years of service to Scoil Chríost Rí, the hearse carrying her on the way to the church will pass through the school grounds. The hope is to have student and teacher representation on site at 11:00 am on Saturday to pay our respects. If you could attend, the staff, management and Mrs Loughnane’s family would be very appreciative. We will line the pathway in front of the school."

Eileen will be laid to rest on Saturday following requiem Mass at 12 noon at  SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise.
