The late Tom Mulhall was a hard grafter who wanted nothing but the best for his county, according to Laois County Council's Chief Executive.
Mr John Mulholland paid tribute to the late Fine Gael councillor whom he worked closely with when the deceased the Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tom Mulhall," said Mr Mulholland.
"I have had the privilege of knowing Tom very well over the past nine years as a Councillor, as a proud son of Emo and as a family man.
"Tom was a dedicated, hard-working and astute local representative.
"He was a hard grafter who wanted nothing but the best for the local community and the people of Laois and would do everything in his power to provide solutions to local issues.
"Coming from a farming background Tom was very practical in his approach to Local Government.
I recall he advocated energetically for new business to the County and used every opportunity, particularly when he was Cathaoirleach, to promote Co Laois.
"For my own part and the staff in Laois County Council I wish to extend our deep sympathies to his devoted wife Bridget and to Úna and Niall,” concluded the tribute.
The late Fine Gael councillor will be laid to rest on Thursday, March 21.
