Laois sports club sees funding opportunity in rubbish

Company applies for permission to locate bins on club grounds

Laois rugby club sees funding opportunity in waste

Similar bin is operating on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise

Portarlington Rugby Club has embarked on a partnership that would see a company install commercial waste disposal facilities at its club grounds which is likely to be a revenue stream for the club.

The club is in the process of lodging a planning application with Laois County Council to install pay-to-use portable waste compactor for residual and food waste and a pay-to-use portable compactor for mixed dry recyclables.

BIGbin Tech Ltd is the applicant for the development on the Lea Road in the Laois Offaly town.

A company called Kollect On Demand Ltd successfully applied to Laois County County to operate  the so called BigBins on a site on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise in 2021.

The company told the local authority at the time that the bins are fully sealed and an alert is issued when at 75% capacity. The company says it has had no issues of illegal dumping where the bins are located at other sites.

A decision is expected to be reached by Laois County Council by April 2022.
