Laois town reveals theme for its biggest ever St Patrick's Day parade

Mountrath's St Patrick's Day parade theme for 2026 is 'Legends Galore'

Mountrath is set to come alive this St Patrick's Day with its "biggest, brightest, most entertaining parade yet."

The Mountrath Festival Committee have invited everyone to take part in this year's parade which will be a vibrant celebration of community, creativity and local pride.

The committee has revealed that this year's theme is 'Legends Galore,' with participants encouraged to celebrate legendary heroes, stories, characters, as well as moments past and present through imaginative floats, costumes and performances.

PRO for the Mountrath Festival Committee, Julie Bennett said: "Every legend has a story, and this one starts with you. It’s the people who take part, volunteer, organise and support the parade that truly shape the day. Together, we’re not just putting on an event we’re creating memories and making history for our small community.

The parade will begin at 12:30pm from the grounds of St Fintan’s GAA. The Square will also have entertainment from 11am, with music and entertainment showcasing Irish culture.

Local businesses, clubs, teams and community groups are encouraged to get involved by entering a float, marching, volunteering or helping to sponsor the event.

To recognise the effort and creativity on display, trophies will be awarded for Best Shop Window, Best Overall Entry, Best Walking Group, Best Group and Best Business Entry.

Chairperson of the Mountrath Festival Committee, James Kelly said: "This is our parade, our community, and our time to shine. Each year the support and imagination from local groups is fantastic. We’re hoping to make 2026 our biggest, brightest and most entertaining parade yet but we can’t do it without everyone getting involved."

He added: "Events like this are only possible thanks to the generosity of local businesses and volunteers. We are actively seeking support and sponsorship from across the community to help us deliver a day everyone can be proud of, and we’d love to hear from anyone who can get involved."

Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to sign up or contact the committee through social media.
