Laois school to host tractor run to raise funds for play area

The launch of the 2026 Tractor and Truck Run in aid of St Colman's NS, Stradbally, taking place on Sunday, February 1.

St Colman's National School in Stradbally is set to host a Tractor and Truck run next month to raise funds for the development of a new outdoor play area for the school.

This follows on from a hugely successful event held last year to support the development of the school's sports facilities. This year's Tractor and Truck run will take place on Sunday, February 1, a great way to spend St Brigid's Day.

Registration for the Tractor & Truck Run will open from 12pm at Stradbally Town & Country, with the main run getting underway at 1.30pm. An entry fee of €20 applies to all tractors and trucks.

Earlier in the day, a Junior Tractor Run will take place at 1pm, giving younger children the chance to get involved and enjoy the excitement of the day. This children’s run is free to enter, and prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated junior vehicle.

Following the runs, refreshments will be served in St Joseph’s Hall from 2.30pm, providing an opportunity for participants and spectators to gather. A mega raffle will take place at 3.30pm, featuring prizes kindly donated by local businesses and St Colman’s Parents Council, with all proceeds again going towards the new outdoor play facility.

Community spirit will be on full display as local families, farmers and hauliers come together for the school. The run is expected to attract strong support from across Stradbally and surrounding areas, celebrating both local pride and generosity.
The event is being organised by the St Colman’s NS Parents’ Council, who would like to sincerely thank the many volunteers, local businesses and community members who have contributed their time and support. The organisers are encouraging everyone to come along on the day, whether taking part or cheering from the sidelines, to enjoy what promises to be a great community occasion.

"All proceeds go towards the development of a new play area at St. Colman’s NS. So come out, bring the family, and support a great local cause," said the organisers, St Colman's Parents' Council.
