Portlaoise bus stops suspended for expected huge funeral

A Laois Townlink bus.

Parts of Portlaoise will come to a near standstill this Friday morning, in respect for the funeral of a boy who tragically died.

The Laois Townlink bus service by Slieve Bloom Coaches has announced that it will not be servicing stops on the Dublin road on the morning of April 14, to avoid worsening traffic delays for what is expected to be a huge funeral.

"Due to a funeral procession on the Dublin Road, Portlaoise this Friday, 14th April, we will not be servicing Portlaoise Hospital or Kilminchy busstops between 10.45am and 12.30. This is to alleviate some traffic congestion and as a mark of respect to the Brown family on the tragic passing of David. We pass our condolences to the Brown family at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

David Brown, 15 from Heathfields, Portlaoise died following a quad bike accident on Easter Sunday April 9.

He is mourned by his heartbroken parents, James and Carmel (nee Maloney, Vicarstown), big brother Conor and little sister Princess Sarah, uncles, aunts, cousins and his many friends in Portlaoise GAA, Laois GAA, St Mary's CBS and The Heath National School.

His remains are reposing is at his residence at 5 Heathfields, R32 KN9F this Thursday from 3pm to 8pm, with recital of the Rosary at 8pm.

Removal to SS Peter and Paul’s Church Portlaoise is on Friday morning at 11.15am for 12pm Requiem Mass. The Mass may be viewed on https://www.portlaoiseparish.ie/webcam/ 

Burial will take afterwards in SS Peter and Paul cemetery, on the Stradbally Road. Family Flowers only. Donations if desired to Trexo for Jamie www.trexoforjamie.ie
