Laois Marlins swimmers enjoyed unprecedented National success at the Swim Ireland IAG Division 2 Finals in Limerick.
Three of their four participants, Mick Carroll, Thomas Martin and Christopher Carew, not only picked up much coveted medals, they also qualified for the Division 1 Finals. Tyler Dolan was less than a second away from reaching Division 1 qualification time, as she shaved 10 seconds off her previous 200m Backstroke PB.
In the heats of the U-14 100m Breaststroke Christopher Carew shaved off five seconds to earn a place in the Final. In his best swim to date, he lost a further two seconds in that Final, winning him a silver medal and a place in the Division 1 Finals.
Mick Carroll also won silver and a place in the Division 1 Finals in 100m Breaststroke, as well as recording a new PB.
Thomas Martin knocked four seconds off in the 100m Backstroke, winning a bronze medal and a place in the Division 1 Finals.
A powerful performance in the 100m Butterfly put him in first place in the Final, winning him a Speeding Certificate and gaining Division 1 qualification standard (because he swam faster than the cut-off standard for IAG Division 1). He knocked an amazing eight seconds off his seeded time.
This brings the total number of Marlins with Division 1 qualification standard to six, as Christopher, Thomas and Mick will now join Eoin Donoghue, Jordan Overton and Mathew Doyle at the IAG Championships at the NAC later this month.
