Floods have caused widespread disruption across Laois in recent days, with Portarlington one of the worst affected towns in the county.
Last Friday's heavy rain saw the River Barrow reach its peak late that night following days of rainfall, severely flooding Portarlington.
On Monday morning, November 17, locals continue to deal with the damage as Botley Lane off Patrick Street is still blocked and closed to traffic. Another point of concern was Spa Street near Market Square which has now thankfully cleared due to council staff working at the site with water pumps.
Cllr Aidan Mullins revealed water levels reached the backdoor of some of the homes on Spa Street over the past few days. He told Leinster Express / Laois Live that flooding is a "massive concern every year" for those residents.
With the Flood Relief Scheme for Portarlington projected to be years away, Cllr Mullins said: "We're going to have to suffer this annual flooding event until something happens."
