Like all secondary schools across Ireland, Mountmellick Community School saw its Junior Cert class of 2024 receive their much anticipated results.

There were smiles and sighs of relief all around, with more tears of joy rather than disappointment within the school's halls.

School principal Mr Larry Curtin spoke to the Leinster Express/Laois Live, warmly congratulating the Junior Cert group who are now in Transition Year and fifth year.

"In general, the results were similar to previous years, this group of students have done exceptionally well in their Junior Cert cycle," Mr Curtin said.

"On Wednesday morning we had a huge amount of excitement and anticipation. This was their first time ever receiving results from state exams," he explained.

"Once the results were distributed, we had a lot of very, very happy students, and we have received very positive feedback from parents since," Mr Curtin said.

The class was made up of 132 students, and Mr Curtin commended them on maintaining the high standard of results received in the school.

"The level of results would be in keeping with the standards set by previous years, which would indicate that these students should be able to maintain the standard of very high quality leaving cert results," Mr Curtin said.

"They will go on and achieve great things. Overall, we had a very positive and indicative experience on Wednesday," the principal finished.
