Shoppers in one of the biggest supermarkets in Laois were left in disbelief at the empty shelves on Tuesday evening as the snow is set to hit Ireland.
The stocks of fresh fruit and vegetables at Dunnes Stores, Portlaoise were completely gone by 6pm on Tuesday.
Customers looked confusingly at one another as they bought the last remaining pitta breads and bagels. Sliced pans of all sorts were completely sold out.
A staff member said that the stock for tomorrow has already sold out. Bottles of water, milk and fresh meat supplies were also very low.
One customer said she genuinely needed shopping and was not panic buying but there was slim pickings.
Laois is subject to a Status Orange snow warning.
