WATCH: see our highlights of the Laois Community and Voluntary Awards 2024

Dubbed the 'biggest night of the year in Laois', see the awards ceremony and celebrations

The Laois Community & Voluntary Awards 2024 took place on Friday November 8 in Midlands Park Hotel.

A night of much deserved recognition to our fantastic volunteers in Laois was accompanied by excellent entertainment and fabulous fine dining.

Upon arrival, crowds were greeted by music from Camross Comhaltas group. Nominees and distinguished guests mingled and enjoyed the performance, before taking their seats.

Speeches were heard from sponsors and organisers before a three course meal was enjoyed by attendees.

Clive Davis, Chairperson of People First Credit Union – Corporate Sponsor said the Credit Union was delighted to return as the main sponsor of the awards. People First Credit Union revealed the finalists for this year's  €10,000 Community Champion Award.

The nominations are Athy Sing and Sign Club which is an Irish sign language group teaching ISL to people from six years of age to 72 years of age. 

Ballinakill Community Development Association for their virtual tour of villages, historical features to promote active lifestyles and engagement with community history. 

The third nominee is Abbeyleix Community Garden for their rainwater harvesting project. 

The 2024 finalists will go forward to the People First Credit Union Annual General Meeting in January when the winner will be announced. 

John Oxley Laois PPN Chairperson said: "The Community and Voluntary Awards recognise and celebrate the wonderful Community Groups of Laois, and their Volunteers who enhance the quality of life in our local communities.

“Community Groups are at the heart of our local community and Laois PPN look forward to celebrating their achievements on the night, at the Community and Voluntary Awards.”

The 'selfless dedication' of volunteers to making Laois a better place to live, work and visit, was commended by the Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Cllr Padraig Fleming at the gala awards.

Minister of State, Seán Fleming said the event celebrates one of the 'hardest working and innovative sectors' in our county, and indeed our country.

Music from Kurdanza String Quartet Band accompanied the fabulous three course meal. Following the dinner reception, fantastic awards were handed out to deserving nominees.
