WATCH: Chaos in Laois town as emergency services attend timber lorry crash

The timber haul came loose following a collision between lorries in Abbeyleix

Watch: A lorry carrying a load of timber was attempting to pass another lorry on the main street in Abbeyleix, when both vehicles collided.

Several emergency service vehicles are on scene, with Gardaí and Laois Fire Brigade attempting to remove debris from the road.

No injuries were reported, with neither drivers requiring medical attention. The road is expected to reopen sometime this evening, with diversions in place.

Abbeyleix serves the Laois to Kilkenny N77 route, with the delay likely to cause significant traffic disruption to motorists travelling for the bank holiday weekend.

Emergency services are currently attending the scene, where a clean up operation is in place.
