WATCH: Laois Rose's emotional dance pays tribute to parents support of her disability

Not a dry eye in the audience during Katelyn Cummins' DWTS appearance

Laois Rose of Tralee Katelyn Cummins won immunity tonight on the Dancing with the Stars, in a touching tribute dedicated to her parents.

This episode was the 'Dedicated Dance' special, which saw Katelyn and her pro dancing partner Leonardo Lini dance a contemporary ballroom to ‘Never Enough’ from the Greatest Showman, covered by Kelly Clarkson.

Katelyn and Leonardo's dance was as equally empowering as it was emotional, as they glided gracefully across the dance floor.

Katelyn dedicated the dance to her mother Siobhán and her father Noel, thanking them for their support through her hearing journey. She credits their support and encouragement as the foundation that allowed her to live a normal life.

An emotional video played before the dance, where Katelyn and Leonardo sat down with her parents at home over a cup of tea.

"When I was eight months old I got diagnosed with a hearing disability, it's genetic in our family. It hasn't affected my day to day life whatsoever, and I think that comes down to my parents," Katelyn said.

"I'm so grateful for how they raised me to live a normal life."

Katelyn highlighted her appreciation towards them for how they supported her disability growing up, allowing her to make her own decisions once she was old enough.

"When you got offered the cochlear implant for me, you said no, you were going to let me make the decision for myself when I am older. That meant so much to me," she said to her parents.

Her mother Siobhán explained how she understood, having a hearing disability herself.

"I just wanted you to have a normal life," Siobhán said.

"Having my Mam go through the same thing was helpful for my sister and I growing up, we had an advocate there. It was the little things she did that made us feel seen, that made us feel heard," Katelyn said.

Her father Noel expressed his pride in having the dance dedicated to himself and his wife. Siobhán affirmed that it will be overwhelming when the pair see her dance.

"This is just one dance, one moment to say thank you," Katelyn finished.

After an emotional show in which contestants paid tribute to people who have made an impact on their lives and dedicated a dance to them, our Portlaoise Rose and pro partner Leonardo received the highest combined points from the judges and public votes to earn immunity. The pair received a fantastic 35 points.

Katelyn and Leonardo are now free from elimination from the first Dance-Off of the series next week on 'Fright Night'.

Katelyn said she was 'absolutely delighted' with the win.

On tonight's episode, there was no elimination.

Sunday's special episode also honoured former judge Julian Benson, who passed away in April last year.

Viewers heard from former presenter Nicky Byrne and former Head Judge Lorraine Barry, as well as current presenter Jennifer Zamparelli and judges Brian Redmond, Karen Byrne, and Arthur Gourounlian, who shared memories of their dear friend and colleague.

The professional dancers also honoured the man endearingly named ‘Captain Sparkle’ with an emotional performance to ‘Last Dance’ by Donna Summer.

Next week is Fright Night, airing on Sunday 08 February from 6:30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.

Laois locals are bursting with pride over Katelyn and Leonardo's performance on Sunday, expressing their pride in her hard work and great effort. We could not be prouder of our Laois Rose.
