Portlaoise Library hosts the Heritage Week event.
Genealogy and help in overcoming problems in doing your family tree will feature during the first days of Heritage Week in Laois which begins on August 16.
Portlaoise Library hosts a talk Monday, August 18, 7pm - 8pm called Breaking Barriers: Dealing with Obstacles in Genealogy
Robert Quinn, a professional genealogist based in Laois, will talk about some of the problems he has encountered when researching his family history.
Drawing on his own genealogy, he will highlight obstacles he encountered and explain how he overcame them. The event organisers say this talk will benefit all interested in family history, from the absolute beginner to the seasoned family researcher.
From 10 am to 2 pm that day, Mr Quinn and Sinead Holland, Laois Local Studies, will give one-to-one sessions on genealogy. Using free resources available online and in the library, they will advise the public on where to start and how to progress their family research. Each session will last 45 minutes.
