The Cuisle Centre's art group have released an exciting array of Christmas cards, all in aid of the Laois cancer charity's support centre.

Under the guidance of artist Mary Slevin, the group have created a collection of ten stunning Christmas cards.

"This is something we have been doing for the last four or five years, all proceeds return back to the centre," artist Mary Slevin told the Leinster Express / Laois Live.

Ms Slevin has worked with the Cuisle Centre for over ten years.

"We begin working on the cards in January or February, the group members spend some time searching for a Christmas image they are interested in and would enjoy painting," she said.

"We all go at our own paces, some people have their paintings completed in a handful of workshops, others take their time with it. They are sent off and printed by the Cuisle centre by Easter," she explained.

This year's group of artist included Brigid Kavanagh, Hilary Shore, Josephine McCauley, Julie Luttrell, Marian Nolan, Patty Shea, Mary McDonald, Teresa Foster, Maureen Bradley and John Culleton.

Their original paintings will be on display in the Dunamaise Arts Centre in Portlaoise until after Christmas.

"The cards are available for sale in Portlaoise parish centre, the credit union and the Dunamaise," Ms Slevin said.

"We would love to thank the Dunamaise, they have always found a spot for our paintings. We had a fantastic celebration when they were officially displayed. The whole project is very worthwhile, we took it on after the Covid-19 pandemic and it's a great chance for people to meet once a week for a few hours.

"Our weekly sessions give great enjoyment, people can catch up and meet with friends, all the people taking part have some connection to cancer in their lives," the artist explained.

"We all know eachother very well now, we can paint and have the chats, it's very relaxing," she finished.

For those who wish to support the Cuisle Centre, a pack of eight Christmas cards is available for €7, with three packs available for €20.
