Santa
A Laois Christmas community project that has grown to be a vital help for families has swung back into action.
Santa's Helpers is a volunteer group that assists Santa each year in providing gifts to children in Laois where assistance is needed.
"As always, we look forward to assisting Santa and this year will be no different," say the group.
They say many people they help are in low paid incomes or where a life circumstance has radically changed income. Apart from making sure the children are looked after, Santa's Helpers provide other support.
"The children receive joy and happy memories. The family receive relief from another expense, or are able to concentrate on paying for something else to keep their home and their family moving forward. This is about mental health, community, coming together at a time which is joyful and helping each other.
"We work with people with their finger on the pulse, people who know who might be receiving this or that and those who don't. We look for those who don't. Santa’s Helpers has got off to a good start with some larger off line donations which we are so grateful for. It takes a lot of money to get the job done," he said.
