Elderly residents 'terrified' of tall trees in Laois estate

Stradbally

Older residents in a Laois housing estate are claimed to be "terrified" of the tall trees when putting out their bins.

A Laois councillor has described the concerns of residents of Church Avenue housing estate in Stradbally.

"This is a very old housing estate in Stradbally, with about 25 houses. There are massive high trees there. Old people are living there. The trees are gone very high, and they are terrified. These are old people going out with their bins," he said.

He tabled a motion to the November meeting of Graiguecullen Portarlington Municipal District, requesting that Laois County Council trim back the trees and also resurface the back lane at the estate.

In reply, area engineer Philip McVeigh said a meeting will be held on site to identify the works required.
