One month into the new Portlaoise town service, and a new bus is being added, but it's just for one special day.

The Laois town got its first dedicated bus service in February, to cut traffic and serve pedestrians.

Portlaoise Town buses arrive at 21 bus stops every half hour from dawn to midnight, seven days a week, see reaction so far by Portlaoise Municipal District councillors.

For one day only, an extra bus will be added to one of the two routes, PL2.

It is all to support the 2025 Live Well Expo, at Portlaoise College.

The organisers Laois County Council have thanked the National Transport Authority for the support of the expo, which takes place on Wednesday, April 23.

"Thank You Portlaoise Town Bus. The operators of the new Portlaoise Town Bus Service have just confirmed that they will have an additional bus running from 12.05 pm on the PL2 route on the 23rd April which stops at Portlaoise College for the Expo.

"This means that from 11.50am at Kilminchy Avenue and all along the PL 2 route there will be a bus picking up every 15 mins. The additional bus will also be running until approx 7pm to get you back," they explain.

The extra bus runs on Wednesday, April 23 from 11am to 6pm with 11am to 12pm being by arrangement only.

The PL2 bus route in red, runs from Kilminchy along the Dublin Road, Block Road, Stradbally Road, JFL Avenue, Coote Street, Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise College to the Mountrath Road. Read more about the Portlaoise bus service here.

The Live Well Expo supports Laois people into older age. It welcomed around 2,000 attendees in 2024, and this year is even bigger, with 100 local exhibitor stands, expert talks, demos with LOETB and Google and health screenings.

The event is in Portlaoise College, Mountrath Road, Portlaoise, County Laois R32 N795. Find out more: https://laois.ie/.../live-well-health-wellbeing-expo
