The death occurred of Joseph O’Brien, Portlaoise Road, Abbeyleix, Laois on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Predeceased by his parents, his two children Ann and Mary, and his brothers. Joseph will be dearly missed by his loving wife Mary, his children Eva, Deirdrea, Sharon, Joanne, Jackie, Geraldine,Julie and Debbie. Lawson and Declan his adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters, his sons-in-law Daithi, Derek, Shane, Rory and Lar. May Joseph Rest in Peace.
Joseph's family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the Laois Palliative Care Team, Dr. Kemple, Dr. Corry, P H N Services Abbeyleix, and Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore.
Reposing at his residence on Thursday the 9th from 4pm to 6pm with Rosary at 6pm. Removal to The Church Of The Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix for 11am Requiem Mass on Friday. Burial afterwards in the adjoining Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations if desired to the Laois Palliative Care Team. House private on Wednesday please.
Cecilia Baxter - Portlaoise
The death has occurred of Cecilia Baxter (née Whelan) St. Stephen’s Terrace, Cork Road, Waterford, formerly of Portlaoise and late of Signa Care, Ferrybank, Waterford. Died April 7th, 2026.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Paddy, and son-in-law Robbie (Bible) Cecilia will be sadly missed by her daughters Bridhge, Siobhán and Gwen, sons Declan and Aidan, grandchildren Amy, Robbie, Dylan, Josh, Ava, Sarah, Briona and Carrie, great-grandchildren, son-in-law Shamie, daughter-in-law Lorna, sisters-in-law Chris, Lily and Monica, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends. Reposing in Tom Hennessy’s Funeral Home, 45A Johnstown, Waterford (X91FW4A), on Thursday April 9th from 5.pm to 7pm. Funeral walking to St. John’s Church, Parnell Street, on Friday April 10th at 11.40am arriving for Requiem Mass at 12 o’clock.
Burial afterwards in St. Otteran’s Cemetery, Ballinaneeshagh.
Mary Whelan- Ballinakill
The death has occurred of Mary Whelan of (née Ivory) 1 The Courtyard, Ballinakill, Laois, R32NX24.
Mary died peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the care of the wonderful staff of Fennor Hill Nursing Home,Urlingford.
She is predeceased by her husband Jim,parents Peter and Annie,sisters Christine,Babs,Eileen and Peg,brothers Peter,Tom,Joe and Jim,son in law Alan and grandaughter in law Aoife.
Sadly missed by her loving daughters Ann, Jane, Trisha, Marie, Tina, Jacinta, Geraldine,Claire, Josephine, Karen and son Sean, her 27 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Judy and Angela, sister in law Margaret, brother in law Peter, sons in law, daughter in law Claire, and all her relatives and friends who were so good to her.
Reposing at her home on Tuesday from 2pm with removal to St.Brigid,s Church Ballinakill for Prayers at 6pm. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 11am in St.Brigid,s Church,Ballinakill which can be viewed on the link http://www.ballinakillknockparish.com

The death has taken place on April 3 of Bart Whelan, Charleville, Co. Cork.
(Bart Whelan Electrical) Formerly of Brackernagh, Ballinasloe and The Heath, Portlaoise.
Unexpectedly but peacefully.
Pre-deceased by his parents Margaret and Joe and his brother John.
Sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife and best friend Eva (née Judge), sons Joe and Bart, daughter Shauna, his adoring grandchildren, sisters, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Reposing on Wednesday evening April 8 at Daffy’s Funeral Home, Ballyagran from 5pm with evening prayers at 7pm.
Bart’s Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday afternoon April 9 at St. Michael’s Church, Ballyagran (V35C982) at 4pm, followed by private cremation on Friday.

The death has taken place of Martin Ryan, Watford, Hertfordshire United Kingdom and late of Rathdowney, County Laois.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Martin, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on the 7th March 2026. Sadly missed by his loving wife, Patricia, his beloved, daughter Elaine and son James and his grandchildren, his brother John and sister-in-law Eileen, nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Gone to his eternal rest at Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore on 05/04/2026 surrounded by his family following a long illness with bravery and courage.
Predeceased by his father Sylvester, brothers Séan and Martin & sisters Marie Assumpta and Anne.
Deeply regretted by his wife Mary, his children Aoife, Rónán and Érin, his mother Abigail (Abbie), his sisters Abigail, Bernadette and Theresa, his brothers-in-law, extended family, neighbours, and his many friends.
Reposing in his home on Tuesday from 3pm. Recital of the Rosary at 7pm. Removal from his home on Wednesday morning at 11.30am arriving to St. Brigid’s Church Rosenallis for Requiem Mass at 12 o’clock. Burial afterwards in St. Brigid’s cemetery. Family flowers only.

Peter Fitzpatrick - Mountrath
The death took place on April 3 of Peter Fitzpatrick, 24 Old Forge Crescent, Mountrath formerly Clonin, Mountrath & Brae Dooniver, Achill Island, Co.Mayo.
Peter is deeply missed by his only daughter Carina (Chambers), Carina's mother Margaret, son in law Tim, grandchildren Courtney, Dean and Emily, His best friend Imelda, His brothers and sisters Joe Jr, Michael, James, Patrick, Mary, Peggy, Delores and Noreen and his nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his Parents Joseph and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick of Clonin and Sister Josephine Delaney of Roundwood.
Reposing at his daughter's home in Whitefields, Mountrath, Co.Laois (R32E3X7) on Tuesday evening from 5pm concluding with the Rosary at 8pm.
Removal on Wednesday morning at 9.15am to St.Fintans Church Mountrath arriving for 10am Requiem Mass.
Follows by Cremation service at 2.30pm in Newlands Cross Crematorium Dublin (D24 K1CY).
