Portarlington have secured their place in the top-four of this year’s ACFL Division 1 after a commanding victory over Killeshin in McCann Park this afternoon.

The reigning county champions  led from the start as they showed their dominance all over the field.

Portarlington 2-20

Killeshin 0-6

The home side began at a canter as they fired in the first three scores. Darragh Galvin opened the scoring in the opening minute with Galvin adding to his tally from a mark after a super pass from Jake Foster. Colin Slevin got Portarlington’s third point in as many minutes as he played a one-two with Galvin before splitting the posts.

Killeshin would get their first score of the contest in the eighth minute as half-back Patrick Doyle slotted the ball over the black spot. Portarlington added another two scores to their tally as Rioghan Murphy and Jordan Fitzpatrick both raised white flags.

David Aston opened his tally for the game as he kicked two frees with Galvin and Jason Moore replying for Anthony Cunningham’s side. Four more scores would be added before the break as Portarlington held a comfortable lead at the break. Murphy kicked two fine scores while Foster pointed a free with Darragh Slevin pointing from full-back. Portarlington leading 0-11 to 0-3 at half-time.

The eventual victors started the second-half in similar fashion as the first with them pointing the first three scores of the second period. Galvin kicked a score from play and from a free while Foster also raised a white flag from a placed ball.

Aston got his third score of the contest as Killeshin struggled to muster up any scoring chances. He would soon add another to his tally with a placed ball.

The next score would surely wrap up the contest as Murphy teed up Fitzpatrick to tap into the Killeshin net. Jason Moore scored a point similar to the weather that the game was played in as he scored a scorcher off the outside of his left foot. Foster pointed yet again from a free for Portarlington.

Aston was proving Killeshin’s only outlet for scores as he kicked another free over the bar. Portarlington would score a further 1-3 as Eoin McCann, Murphy and goalkeeper Luke O’Reilly all pointed with Darragh Slevin assisting Galvin to tap into an empty Killeshin net and raise their second green flag. Evan Lyons got the game’s final score as Portarlington won out by 20-points in the end.
