Children allegedly used in Laois theft

The woman appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court
A woman appeared in court accused of inducing children to engage in criminal activity.
The woman (44), who has a Laois address but cannot be named due to reporting restrictions, is accused of two counts of inducing, inviting, aid or abetting a child to commit a criminal activity in Laois on July 27, 2026.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said it would be alleged the children took items valued at €180 from a pharmacy in Laois on the date in question.
On hearing a brief outline, Judge Andrew Gubbins said he would accept jurisdiction in the case.
Solicitor Aonghus McCarthy requested disclosure to include any CCTV footage in relation to the matter.
Judge Gubbins imposed reporting restrictions preventing the identity of the children and the woman being disclosed. He remanded her on bail to appear again before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court on December 7.
