A book due to be returned in 14 days made its way back to Portlaoise Library after 47 years.
Staff at Laois Libraries didn’t seem to mind as they used the book to highlight the fact that it’s never too late to return a Library book.
The book had been due back to Portlaoise library in September 1976. The borrower would have been liable to a one penny(1D) fine every week thereafter under the old rules.
However, Laois Libraries used it to remind the public that you can return a book at any time without fear of penalities.
“Remember, it is never too late to return your library books,” they posted alongside an image of the book.
“Fines for overdue books were abolished in 2019. So if you have any long-lost library books to return to the library, you can do so completely guilt free,” Laois Libraries stated.
