Rathdowney GAA Club received planning permission for a 180 seater grandstand

A Laois GAA club has been given the green light for a major expansion to its facilities after receiving planning permission for a 180 seater grandstand.

Rathdowney GAA Club has received the go-ahead from Laois County Council for a new roofed spectator stand to the north of the grounds including all associated site works.

The stand would measure nearly 9 metres tall, and 29 metres long, covering 255 square metres.

It would seat a total of 180 viewers, including 11 seats in an accessible section.

Rathdowney GAA who join forces with nearby Errill GAA in competitions, won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship in 2019. Rathdowney-Errill GAA were beaten in the final of the same competition in 2024.

The council planner found: “The development will be well separated from nearby development. Having regard to the siting and layout of the development there are no undue concerns regarding residential amenity. The development would not have an adverse impact on the amenities of adjoining properties through undue overlooking, undue overshadowing and/or an over dominant visual impact.”

Planning permission was granted with ten conditions attached.
