A Laois GAA Club has been given the go-ahead to develop a new astro turf pitch and walkway. The Slieve Bloom G.A.A. Club applied to Laois County Council for the development at Deerpark, Mountrath and have been granted permission subject to ten conditions. The application sought permission for an astro turf playing surface, associated lighting and fencing and all associated site works.
The applicant proposes to install a 2.4m high mesh around the perimeter of the playing pitch and a walkway which will run along the perimeter of the site. The site currently has a playing pitch, clubhouse and dressing room.

"The proposed pitch is an addition to an already established facility and would be a modest development with little visual impacts," said the planning documents.
When granting permission the chief executive's report stated: "the proposed development would not seriously injure the amenities of the area, would not be prejudicial to public health, would be acceptable in terms of traffic safety and would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area."
