Padel fever hits Laois with launch of new sports facility in Mountrath

A new sports facility in Laois is set to bring one of the world’s fastest-growing games to the heart of the county, with a free community open day planned this weekend.

Padel100 will officially introduce its new padel court and fitness space on Patrick Street, Mountrath, inviting people from across County Laois to come along and try the sport for themselves.

Running from 2pm to 6pm, the open day is aimed squarely at locals, offering a first look at the purpose-built courts alongside gym facilities located beside Bloom HQ. Organisers say the event is designed to make the sport accessible to everyone, from complete beginners to seasoned players curious about the fast-paced game, which blends elements of tennis and squash.

The launch marks another step in Mountrath’s emergence as a growing hub for health and fitness in Laois. The event is being staged in partnership with Mountrath Health & Fitness Academy and Bloom HQ, highlighting a collaborative effort to boost wellbeing and community activity in the town. READ MORE BELOW PICTURE.

Visitors on the day can expect live padel demonstrations, guided tours of the new gym, and fitness showcases including yoga, Pilates, TRX and HYROX sessions. There will also be tours of Bloom HQ’s wider facilities, alongside music, entertainment and refreshments in what organisers describe as a family-friendly atmosphere.

Event organiser Alan Phelan said the goal is to introduce as many people as possible to the sport in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

"We are so excited to finally open our doors to the local community and introduce people to padel. It’s a fun and social sport that is easy for anyone to pick up, and this Open Day is all about giving people the opportunity to experience it in a new state-of-the-art environment."

With no booking required and free entry, organisers are expecting a strong turnout from across Laois and the wider Midlands, as curiosity grows around a sport that has been rapidly expanding across Ireland.
