There has been great sadness in the Spink community in Laois in recent days following the passing of Joe Dowling.
Mr Dowling, a talented musician has been remembered fondly particularly by Spink Comhaltas, a group that promotes Irish traditional music and song.
"Joe was the beloved father of our music teacher Paula Dowling and loving grandfather to her children who are also members of the branch," a spokesperson for the group said.
"A fine musician in his own right, he will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him," they added.
Meanwhile, local GAA club Erin's Own also paid tribute to the Dowling family.
"Everyone in Erin’s Own GAA Club send condolences to the Dowling family on their sad loss.
"Joe was a great Erin’s Own and Kilkenny hurling supporter and constant presence on the sidelines especially to cheer on his grandchildren," the club commented.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS: Reposing at the Residence of his son Shane in Firoda [R32 Y5E5] on Friday, August 8 from 3pm, concluding with Vigil Prayers and Rosary at 7.30pm.
The funeral cortege will arrive at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Castlecomer on Saturday for Requiem Mass at 12noon.
Joe will be laid to rest thereafter in the adjoining cemetery. The Funeral Mass can be viewed HERE
