Traffic calming is being asked for from Laois County Council, on the road past a large Laois bus company's headquarters.

Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald is asking for the safety measures, on behalf of residents living near the Slieve Bloom Coaches company in Killeen.

She tabled a motion to the January meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.

"There are a lot of buses and traffic, this is a dangerous road near a bend. There is a lot of concern about the speed on the road, and at the entrance and exit of the bus area. We just want to make it safer," she said.

The company which has the Laois Townlink service contract, is based on a rural local road that exits onto the busy regional R422 road between Mountmellick and Emo.

Portlaoise MD office in reply to Cllr Fitzgerald's motion, noted that the L2133 at Killeen has a default 60km/hour speed limit in place.

They agree to examine the location with a view to installing signage and / or SLOW road markings, as appropriate.
