Laois locals commuting on TFI Local Link services can now avail of contactless card payment options.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has confirmed the successful rollout of contactless card payment technology across all TFI Local Link Laois Offaly services on Friday January 23.

Passengers using TFI Local Link Laois Offaly’s regular services can now pay their fares using debit or credit cards, as well as mobile payment options such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

This rollout follows the successful pilot of contactless card payments in Cavan Monaghan and the rollout of technology in Tipperary in December.

Contactless payments will be accepted for single-journey fares, while daily and weekly products will continue to be available via the Leap website and the TFI Leap Top‑up App.

Laois passengers may also continue to pay using TFI Leap cards and cash, and Free Travel Cards remain valid on all eligible services.

“We’re committed to making public transport as convenient and user‑friendly as possible," TFI Local Link Laois Offaly General Manager Frances Byrne said.

"The availability of modern payment options will make it easier for more people to choose sustainable travel and access vital services across the region," Ms Byrne said.

TFI Local Link Manager Edmund Betagh also welcomed this development.

“Introducing contactless payments is a major step forward for public transport in Laois and Offaly," Mr Betagh said.

"It offers passengers greater flexibility, reduces boarding times, and ensures our services continue to meet the needs of local communities," he finished.
