Residents, parents and school bus drivers should soon have a smoother passage on a road that serves two of Portlaoise's busiest schools.
Laois County Council has put in place temporary traffic management arrangements at the Borris Road in Portlaoise on the Borris Road from St Francis School to The Grange roundabout.
The resurfacing work is being carried out between February 16 and 20 from 9.20am to 6pm each day.
Apart from serving St Francis, the Borris Road is also the main artery serving the St Mary's CBS / Scoil Chríost Rí Girls secondary school in Portlaoise.
St Mary's Hall is also accessible from the Borris Road.
Significant works have been carried out on the Borris Road in recent years to facilitate the schools and construction of new housing estates on the route.
While the new surface will improve the trip to the two secondary schools, some parents and pupils who use Colliers Lane to get to the secondary schools are set to face months of disruption due to roundabout works being carried out on the Dublin Road.

Laois County Council has advised the public to expect 16 weeks of delays from February 26 due to work on a roundabout at the Colliers Lane junction and the Rath Rua housing estate.
