A rolling road closure of Portlaoise Main Street will start this Pancake Tuesday night, as the Christmas lights finally come down.

Laois County Council has announced the temporary road closure, so the twinkling lights can be safely removed, as Lent starts.

Even The 2 Johnnies noticed recently that Portlaoise festive lights were still up, speaking on their podcast after Portlaoise Jazz Festival.

The rolling road closures will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday February 17 and 18, from 6pm until 10pm nightly.

Portlaoise is seeing plenty of roadworks and traffic delays at the moment.

Works are underway at the end of Lower Main Street on JFL avenue, the Mountmellick Road, the Borris Road, and upcoming on the Dublin road.
